Bicycles address traffic congestion as they form a valid substitution for cars on short trips, contribute to the use of public transport by providing effective last-mile connectivity and simply take up less space on the road. As the system of shared bicycles works from , it is relatively new in Slovakia. This is a reason why this system still has some problems and deficiencies that need to be optimized. Presented paper focused on the city of Nitra, which is currently struggling with the issue of traffic congestion.

Reducing Traffic Congestion and Pollution in Urban Areas

With the rapid development of society, urban traffic congestion has gradually become an important social problem that many cities need to solve. Aiming at the problem of urban traffic congestion and automobile exhaust pollution, this paper adopts the system dynamics method to establish a model for studying urban traffic congestion system from the perspectives of private cars, trucks, and public transportation. First, we determine city motor vehicle trips as an indicator of the degree of traffic congestion in this paper. Second, we analyze the causal relationship between the growth of private cars, the travel of trucks, public transportation, population, and other factors and then build a model and test the stability of the model. Then, we add some practical policies to the model for policy analysis. Finally, it is concluded that the private car restriction policy is effective in controlling the amount of private car travel, and the purchase restriction policy controls the growth of the number of private cars from the root cause, but the development of public transportation is the most effective treatment measure in the long run. The rapid development of the use of motor vehicles has brought convenience to people and changed the pattern of the entire transportation system.

Pages: Abstract Traffic congestion, a severe problem in many developing countries, has become a universal phenomenon. For more than 25 years, almost since the end of hostilities in Lebanon, the transportation sector has been facing numerous problems due mainly to bad road infrastructure, an increasing number of vehicles and a quasi-absent public transportation system. Local and foreign transportation researchers and experts have suggested a number of solutions over the years to alleviate traffic congestion problems in Lebanon, such as variable operating schedules, constructing bridges and interchanges, implementing boat taxis, adopting public transport like BRT Bus Rapid Transit , restoring the railway tracks, etc. However, only a few of these suggestions have been implemented so far. A proper planning of transportation in cities entails an understanding of the dynamics of both transport demand and supply.

Traffic congestion is a worldwide issue, especially in developing countries. This is also the case of Afghanistan, especially in Kabul-the capital city, whose rapid population growth makes it the fifth fastest growing city in the world. Traffic congestion affects not only the mobility of people and goods but also the air quality that leads to numerous deaths people every year. There are many factors that contribute to traffic congestion. The insufficiency and inefficiency of public transportation system along with the increase of private vehicles can be considered among the most important contributing factors. This paper addresses the traffic congestion and attempts to suggest possible solutions that can help improve the current public transportation system in Kabul.
