The value placed upon large families especially among under-privileged rural populations in less developed countries who benefit least from the process of development , the assurance of security for the elderly, the ability of women to control reproduction, and the status and rights of women within families and within societies are significant cultural factors affecting family size and the demand for family planning services. Even with a demand for family planning services, the adequate availability of and access to family planning and other reproductive health services are essential in facilitating slowing of the population growth rate. Also, access to education and the ability of women to determine their own economic security influence their reproductive decisions. The magnitude of the threat to the ecosystem is linked to human population size and resource use per person. Resource use, waste production and environmental degradation are accelerated by population growth.

The relationship between population and the environment is a significant issue due to its impact on chances for achieving sustainable development, especially in developing countries. Previous studies on this relationship have primarily focused on the impact of population growth on the environment, while the impact of the environment on population has received less attention, where most of these studies have used single-equation models SEM in their analysis. In order to capture the interrelationship between population growth and the environment, and both its direct and indirect effects on the potential for achieving sustainable development, SEM may not be appropriate. This paper takes a step forward in providing such empirical evidence, by developing a multi-equation model based on the recursive equation system in order to empirically examine the relationship between population growth and the environment in terms of air pollution represented by increased CO 2 emissions, health level represented by the mortality and morbidity due to air pollution, and labour productivity represented by GDP per hour worked, and using a time series data set for Egypt during the period of — Environmental degradation in turn leads to adverse effects on population, particularly with regard to public health. Over the past two decades a great deal has been published in academic journals and conference proceedings on the relationship between population and environment. Some people maintain that rapidly growing population numbers will lead to environmental decline and economic collapse. Some believe increasing populations are a necessary prerequisite for economic growth and development. Others argue that focusing on population numbers is not the issue and that environmental decline and poor economic performance arise because of constraints in institutional and market structures. There are also those who argue that the focus of the population debate should be on human and reproductive rights.

Acquaintance and mastery of main concepts, theories, data, themes, trend and challenges in sustainability studies and practices. Knowledge and understanding This class aims to present to students data, concepts and philosophical principles and dilemmas relevant for issues concerning demography, environmental ethics and politics, sustainability studies Ability to apply knowledge and understanding Knowledge and understanding of the principles of geography, demography, environmental ethics and sustainability studies are fundamental for anyone who intends to work in political institutions or NGOs and governmental international organizations. These skills are achieved through the teaching, and also through the teaching methods, which include frontal lessons, seminar lessons, project work, case analysis. Competence checks are carried out through final and intermediate exams. The teaching activity takes place in a dynamic context, based on the partnership between teachers and learners. The active role of the students is guaranteed not only in the learning process, but also in the evaluation process: self-assessment peer-assessment assessment. Autonomy of judgment At the end of this course, the student is autonomously able to integrate knowledge and analyze the complexity of environmental issues from an ethical and political point of view, to identify the problems and indicate solutions, including shared solutions; all through the integration of data and empirical research, but also of specific conceptual apparatus.

population and their environment. Malthusian theory ( and , republished ) stresses that the growth of human populations always tends to outstrip.

Linking Population, Health, and Environment

The number of people on Earth, where they live, and how they live all affect the condition of the environment. People can alter the environment through their use of natural resources and the production of wastes. Changes in the environmental conditions, in turn, can affect human health and well-being. Human demographic dynamics, such as size, growth, distribution, age composition, and migration of population, are among the many factors that can lead to environmental change. Consumption patterns, development choices, wealth and land distribution, government policies, and technology can mediate or exacerbate the effects of demographics on the environment.

The impact of population growth on economic development is a complex issue. As might be imagined population growth has positive and negative effects on.

Population Environment And Sustainibility
