In addition, Dewey developed extensive and often systematic views in ethics, epistemology, logic, metaphysics, aesthetics, and philosophy of religion.
As a philosopher, social reformer and educator, he changed fundamental approaches to teaching and learning.
In Democracy and Education , Dewey argues that the primary ineluctable facts of the birth and death of each one of the constituent members in a social group determine the necessity of education. On one hand, there is the contrast between the immaturity of the new-born members of the group its future sole representatives and the maturity of the adult members who possess the knowledge and customs of the group. On the other hand, there is the necessity that these immature members be not merely physically preserved in adequate numbers, but that they be initiated into the interests, purposes, information, skill, and practices of the mature members: otherwise the group will cease its characteristic life. Dewey observes that even in a "savage" tribe, the achievements of adults are far beyond what the immature members would be capable of if left to themselves. With the growth of civilization, the gap between the original capacities of the immature and the standards and customs of the elders increases.

He was one of the most prominent American scholars in the first half of the twentieth century. The overriding theme of Dewey's works was his profound belief in democracy , be it in politics, education, or communication and journalism. He asserted that complete democracy was to be obtained not just by extending voting rights but also by ensuring that there exists a fully formed public opinion , accomplished by communication among citizens, experts and politicians, with the latter being accountable for the policies they adopt. Dewey was one of the primary figures associated with the philosophy of pragmatism and is considered one of the fathers of functional psychology. His paper "The Reflex Arc Concept in Psychology," published in , is regarded as the first major work in the Chicago functionalist school. Dewey was also a major educational reformer for the 20th century. John Dewey was born in Burlington, Vermont to a family of modest means.

Educational Occupations and Class Despite the fact that John Dewey had a great deal to say about education and technology, many of his insights have yet to be understood or appropriated. In both of these initiatives application of tools and techniques grow out of educational occupations guided by teachers rather than being imposed on learning situations a priori. If departments of physics and chemistry had laboratories, then why should not a department of pedagogy have one as well? Но ТРАНСТЕКСТ не был обычным компьютером - его можно было отформатировать практически без потерь. Машины параллельной обработки сконструированы для того, чтобы думать, а не запоминать.
